Martha's Web - Help for Windows and More

I hope that you will find the answers you are looking for on my site, I made it for all of my friends that need  help with windows problems.  I hope you will use the information provided here to keep your Windows computer running smooth and become better informed about scams and be safe while surfing!

Using your computer, reading email and surfing the web should be productive or fun.

Unfortunately there are a lot of unscrupulous people in the world that are fast making using your computer, reading email, not productive or fun. The bad guys are also costing us money, a lot of money! We have to pay for security products like virus scanners, Trojan scanners, spam blockers and spyware removal. There are free versions for all of these services, but a lot of people are afraid to use them. Don't be afraid! Just be careful!

Most of Martha's Web was written before the advent of Vista and Windows 7. Therefore the majority of the information on my site was written with Windows XP in mind.  While Windows XP is still widely used, I am now concentrating on Windows 7 and Windows 8, with sections devoted to those versions of Windows. There is a limited amount of information for Vista, which I am no longer using as well as XP.

There were (and still are) a lot of folks using earlier versions of Windows, such as Windows 98 and Windows ME and some of the information is still viable for those folks.  Since Microsoft no longer provides security updates for these versions of Windows, if you are using these earlier Windows versions, be extremely careful as there are countless malware writers just waiting to infect your computer.

What you will find on Martha's Web

There are some helpful ways to maintain your computer and keep it running just like new. It isn't hard, but if you don't know how to perform computer maintenance it will gradually slow down and become unusable. You will also find some help for email products and some security information to help keep your computer safe from the bad guys. Since I am no longer using Windows XP and therefore Outlook Express, these pages will no longer be updated. (But the pages are stll here for now.)

There is a section that will help you to learn how to tell if an email is a hoax! And there are a lot of email hoaxes out there and even the most experienced users sometimes fall for them. You can learn how to avoid scams and what to do about virus.

Check out the Fun Stuff section and there are a lot of fun sites listed in the Links section.

What you won't find on Martha's Web

You won't find ads, pages that take forever to load or popups when your cursor touches certain words.

Computers can be fun! They can make tedious chores easy and when connected to the Internet, they can be a window on the world for shut-ins and people who are lonely. As long as you use safe computing and are careful about where you surf, you can enjoy your computer and have fun!
