Welcome to Martha's Web

I hope that you will find the answers you are looking for on my site, I made it for all of my friends that are new (and confused) and I hope you will use the information provided here to keep your computer running smooth as new, to become better informed about scams and be safe while surfing!

Using your computer, reading email and surfing the web should be productive or fun. Unfortunately there are a lot of unscrupulous people in the world that are fast making using your computer, reading email, not productive or fun. The bad guys are also costing us money, a lot of money. We have to pay for virus scanners, trojan scanners, update subscriptions, spam blockers and spyware removal. There are free versions for all of these services, but a lot of people are afraid to use them. Don't be afraid! Just be careful!

Help for various problems

I have posted links for free virus scanners on the virus page and spyware removers on the spyware page . On this site in each section there are links for free and very good programs that can be used safely. However, since there is so much malware (virus, spyware, etc.,) I recommend that you also use some 'industrial strength' spyware removers, such as Webroot's SpySweeper or Sunbelt's CounterSpy.

I have a section on how to use Outlook Express. There are pages that tell you how to set up an email account, and configure Outlook Express to be used safely!

There is a section that will help you to learn how to tell if an email is a hoax! And there are a lot of email hoaxes out there, even the most experienced users sometimes fall for them. You can learn how to avoid scams and what to do about virus.

There is also a section on to maintain your computer and keep it running just like new. It isn't hard, but if you don't know how to perform computer maintenance it will gradually slow down and become unusable.

Computers can be fun! They can make tedious chores easy and when connected to the Internet, they can be a window on the world for shut-ins and people who are lonely. As long as you use safe computing and are careful about where you surf, you can enjoy your computer and have fun!

Check out the Funstuff section and there are a lot of fun sites listed in the Links section.
