Backing Up Files

Sometimes when we decide to make backups, we forget to backup at least one of the files we really want to keep. This is usually because we don't have a backup plan.

Deciding which files we should backup is the first step of a backup plan. This will be different for individuals due to the fact that most of us use our computers in a different way.

So before you make your plan, decide what you should backup. Think about your computer and how you use it. If your computer suddenly crashed and all of your data files were lost, which files would be the ones you couldn't replace and desperately needed?

Unless you have a plan, at least one of those files may not get backed up.

After you make your plan based on what you have decided you must keep; locate the files and make sure you know where they are at all times.

I keep a small text file showing the 'path' of where my files are located.  I sometimes 'forget' where they are, so this little notepad file helps me to 'remember'.

My Plan

I use flash drives to backup things I can't afford to lose and rotate them off site to my bank box. I also use Karen's Replicator to backup these files to the flash drives.

I have my entire drive backed up to a external hard drive using Acronis and in the event of a hard drive failure, I could replace the drive and use my backup to completely restore everything.
