Backup Your 'Stuff' in Firefox
If you are using Firefox, you need to know how to back up your bookmarks, settings and all those nice extensions that you have installed in Firefox.
There are a lot of things everyone should backup on a regular basis just in case of a computer crash. For one reason or another, the Firefox 'Stuff' or Profile seems to be one of the things that people forget to include when making file backups. There is really a very easy way to backup Firefox, all you need to do is copy the Firefox profile. The profile contains everything! Your bookmarks, saved passwords, extensions, etc., are all included in your profile. First you need to do is locate the profile. The location will depend on which version of Windows you are using. If you have not enabled viewing Hidden files and folders you need to do that before proceeding.
The path in Windows to follow is usually as follows:
In Windows Vista the path is UserName (Probably YourName)/AppData/Roaming/Mozilla/Firefox/Profiles
In Windows XP/2000, the path is usually %AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default\, where xxxxxxxx is a random string of 8 characters. Just browse to C:\Documents and Settings\[User Name]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ and the rest should be obvious.
In Windows 95/98/Me, the path is usually C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default\
Occasionally when Firefox updates, for some reason instead of using the profile used previously, a new profile will be created. This can be extremely frustrating if you have a lot of extensions and book marks. However, it is very easy to make Firefox use the older profile as default with all of the tweaks, bookmarks, etc., that made Firefox uniquely yours.
To change the default profile in Firefox, edit the .ini file using
Notepad.
