Questions about Gmail

More and more people are using Gmail all the time. Gmail is a really great web-based email program and is one of the very few free email programs that will allow you to down load your messages to an email client on your computer.

Since it is such a great program a lot of folks want to use Gmail for receiving messages from mail lists like Yahoo Groups. But because of the way Gmail handles messages from mail lists, members do not receive copies of their own posts and wonder why they don't.

From the Help section on the Gmail site:

'When you send a message to any mailing list you subscribe to, Gmail automatically skips your inbox and archives the message to save you time and prevent clutter. The message will appear in your inbox if someone responds to it or if there is an error delivering the message. If you'd like to view your message, you can find it in Sent Mail or All Mail.'

Some people have managed to find a 'work around' for the way Gmail handles list messages by using two Gmail accounts, one to read only and one to send. Another method is to use your ISP's email to read and post and a Gmail account to use just for Archives. The search function in Gmail is very good and much better than Yahoos search. Generally I just use my ISP's email address for lists.
