Beware of Fake Spyware Removers!

This warning was posted a few years ago, but the same thing is true today, read carefully and double check before paying for anything. There are a large number of so-called spyware removal programs listed on the web. The ads are everywhere, on sites that should have checked before accepting the ads, spam emails, popup ads and even in Google ads. Money talks and ethics sometimes go out the window!

It is unfortunately a fact; there are a lot more 'fake' spyware removers than real spyware removers.  This is one time you should NOT use a search engine like Google, Yahoo search, etc. to find a spyware remover. If you are having a spyware problem it is a good idea to join a help group and ask for a good spyware remover. There is a a page on this site for good and legal spyware removers; some are free and others are very reasonably priced.

It's really too bad we can't trust those ads for stuff, especially for spyware removers. There are so many of them listed on Google and other search engines, but only a few are legitimate.

What really makes it bad is the fact that a lot of those fake programs give their scummy stuff names that are almost the same as the real programs. Unsuspecting folks download the fakes and run the 'scans' only to be told they have to pay before the program will remove what it has found. And the biggest part of what the scans show are not even on the poor user's computer; that's fake as well. Just a scare tactic to get the user to pay for the so-called antispyware scanner. Most of these programs are either rip-offs of legitimate programs or have very weak actual detection for spyware. Some of them may in fact actually be a form of spyware!

If you are searching for a free spyware remover and you download and install something that demands payment, you have been caught by one of these scams. Immediately uninstall the program. Then go to the Spyware Remover page on this site for the real deal.

Heed this warning: Please double-check what you've got before you pay anything!

I see frequently posts from unsuspecting users that thought they were downloading Spybot, only to get demands for payment before the program will remove the spyware.
