Why Did You Send Me a Little Red x?

red x

Occasionally I get an email asking me 'When I send an email with a picture in it, my friends say they only get a little red x and not the picture. What is causing this?'

Again, there could be several reasons for the infamous 'little red x' showing up instead of the nice picture you intended to send! Your friends may have their security settings stopping the pictures.

Have them check their security settings in their email program!  (See the settings  on 'Why do I get a little red x in my email?')

However, there can be other reasons why they see a red x instead of a picture.

Surprisingly, the answer could be as simple as them needing to delete the Temporary Internet files. Have them lick on Start and then go to the Control Panel. When the Control Panel opens, select 'Internet Options'. About the middle of the General tab, there is a section for Temporary Internet files. Click the Delete Files button, put a check mark by Delete all offline content and click ok.

If you are using Outlook Express, double check to make sure it isn't a setting in OE. Click on Tools/Options. Click on the Send tab and click 'HTML settings in the Mail Sending Format. Make sure there is a check mark in the box by 'Send pictures with messages. If there is no check mark there, check the box and click 'OK' and then click 'Apply'.

Other email programs may also have a setting that needs to be changed.

Maybe you didn't insert the file properly!  Go to this page, Sending pictures in email, to learn how to send pictures!
