More About Access Denied

Recently someone recommended a password keeper that I hadn't heard about.  I decided to try it out and found a site that had it for download.  But the only version was for Windows 32 bit and my Windows is 64 bit.  So I decided to contact the owner to see if there was a 64 bit or would be one in the future.

I clicked the link and received this:  Not Authorized

Whoa! What is this?

Apparently the owner of the site is trying to stop someone from harassing him, so he blocked that person's IP address. Unfortunately that is not a good move.

Why it isn't a good move is because it not only blocks that naughty person, it also blocks a lot of other folks as well. That's because the IP address belongs to the ISP and is used for a whole bunch of other folks as well.

Some folks have resorted to using a service called OpenDNS.  There have recently been some comments on one of my Yahoo Groups that there may be some 'issues' with this service for website owners.

So many of us have to use such things for security and that is very disturbing. The Internet isn't as much fun as it used to be!

The fact that someone is harassing a website owner is something that just goes with the territory.  Unfortunately there are a lot of not nice people using the Internet.  Not all of them are scammers, spammers and malware purveyors; some are just very unpleasant people who have nothing better to do than 'play ugly'.
