More Pet Peeves

I have a list of pet peeves about websites, too. These are besides the sites that are infected either on purpose or by scummy crooks.

Some of the most aggravating and irritating things a website coder can do are at the top of my website pet peeves.

  • Resizing my browser. A sure way to keep me from coming back to your site is to open my browser full screen when I click a link to your pages. If I want my browser to be full screen, 'I' will set it full screen, certainly not you!
  • Blasting my eardrums with un-welcome sound will certainly make me leave ASAP, never to return.
  • Telling me my browser is not supported. OK, I'm done with you! If you coded your site correctly, then any browser I choose to use should work. I am not going to use another browser to see your site. (There are a few exceptions, but I still don't like it.)
  • Disabling right-click. Right click has other uses besides copying stuff. I am not going to steal your stuff. I know how to get it if I want it, so don't disable right click. (It's in my cache if I really want it.)
  • On a regular site, please no pop-ups and even worse, no pop-unders! Pop-unders are a sure fire way to get me to leave, never to return. If you must use a pop-up, tell me in advance!
  • Registering to see your stuff. Why? Unless it's a pay site this is totally un-necessary and I will use a made up name and throw-away email address if I really want to see your stuff. Usually I will just leave, never to return.
  • I know people want to raise money to support their sites.  But all of those ads that pop-up if my cursor touches certain words are a really irritating put-off.

There are more, but this is it for now!
