Importing Messages Into Windows Mail
If you have Windows Vista, you already know Microsoft didn't include Outlook Express in Vista.
Actually they did, but they renamed it Windows Mail. They made some visible changes, but under the hood it is still basically Outlook Express without the Identities feature.
Backing up Windows Mail is also different. There are no .dbx files in Windows Mail, so if you need to troubleshoot Windows mail, the old ways no longer apply.
But if you have a backup of Outlook Express you can import the messages into Windows Mail. Just copy the backup to Documents (in Vista) and use the Import feature in WM to bring your messages to Windows Mail. I did have to open Windows Mail in the Administrator mode to make the import work, but then it was a breeze. For a detailed tutorial on importing Outlook Express mail into Windows Mail, see this article 'Migrate from Outlook Express to Windows Mail'.
If you don't have a backup to import but you do have some messages from OE, you can open them in Windows Mail as well. With Windows Mail open, drag the messages into WM from the location where they are stored.
The 'drag and drop messages' will only work with Windows Mail or Windows Live Mail.
