Testing Windows Live Mail

There seems to be a lot of unanswered questions for me about WLM (Windows Live Mail).

In Windows Live Mail, why does some email go missing?

When email goes to the junk folder, but isn't junk, I have to read it in the junk mail folder. If I click 'not junk', the email sometimes just disappears. The mail is not in the deleted folder, not in the inbox, not in the junk folder, where does it go? This doesn't happen all the time, but often enough to be very irritating!  When it doesn't happen, it goes to the inbox.

Who knows.

I ran a filter I had just created on the inbox. About 14 emails disappeared. They didn't go to the folder, they were no longer in the inbox, where did they go? What happened to them? They weren't in the deleted folder, they just vanished! (I looked in every folder, nope they weren't anywhere!)

I have been saying all along, "Windows Live Mail is buggy!" But it seems like millions of user don't have these problems; is it just me or my computer? Who knows, but I found it to be buggy when I tested it in the beta version of Windows 7 on another computer.

I can't figure out where the 'missing' mail goes. I'd hate to lose important mail.

Some emails won't open. I get a message box with 'There was an error opening this message. An error has occurred. This seems to happen more often now. This is from a Yahoo Group.
The message does display online, but there are odd characters in the message. (Â Â )Apparently these characters 'confuse' Windows Live mail.  Screenshot of the error.

However that probably isn't the reason because when I check online, a lot of the messages are just fine. So I may just have to stop using Windows Mail for Yahoo Groups. Most of my Yahoo Groups Mail goes to Outlook, but for testing I need to use an email program, not just look at it.

Sometimes WLM won't let me delete emails. I keep getting the message 'An error has occurred'. Screenshot

Since I have not heard of many folks having this problem, I am wondering if it is a 'conflict' with something else on this computer. So I will install WLM on another computer to see if the same things happen.

Note: Just applying rules to the Inbox does not work unless you first 'Select all' to the inbox messages.

The filters in WLM work, most of the time. Invariably though, I find some mail that should be filtered to other folders in the junk folder, even though the address has been added to my contacts.

WLM on another computer July 3

Since I had set the emails to stay on the server, once I set up the account on the 2nd computer all of the emails downloaded to the account. Right away I encountered a problem. Legitimate emails filtered to the junk mail folder and nothing I did could move them to folders.

However, so far WLM seems to be working much better on this computer.  The testing is ongoing.

Today, July 10, i downloaded and installed WLM again. Actually the installer stated it would upgrade WLM. So far I see no improvement; genuine emails with a filter still ended up in the junk mail folder.  I suspect a total removal and re-install may be in order, but I am going to wait until the ewest version is out of beta.
