Trevor's Solution to Restore an Outlook Express Folder
Every once in a while I learn something new. This just reinforces the fact that there is almost always more than one way to do things in Windows.
Trevor had a problem with missing mail and could not get the mail to import back into Outlook Express once he located the folder containing the mail. He used the following work-a-round and successfully retrieved his mail.
Trevor's solution:
This is my own work around for importing old .DBX mailboxes. A quick comment here first though - if you do this then any new mail in your present inbox will be lost unless you do the 'workaround' (steps 2 and 3).
1. Put the .DBX folder, the one that you want to insert into OE6, onto the Desktop
2. Open OE6 and left-click on 'Local Folders' to select it; next 'right-click' and choose 'New Folder', call it (Inbox2).
3. Copy any old email into that new folder (Inbox2.DBX) - you will lose this email but that's OK as it is just a copy.
4. Open 'Tools', 'Options', 'Maintenance' then 'Store Folder', now copy the whole address to clipboard (by holding down the left mouse button then dragging it across the whole address, and when it is all highlighted press 'Ctrl plus C')
5. Close OE6, left click 'Start' then 'run', press 'Ctrl plus V' and you will see the folder with 'Inbox2.DBX', either leave it open and get back to your Desktop (Windows key plus 'D' if it is on your keyboard) or minimize it.
6. Rename the folder on your Desktop to 'Inbox2.DBX', then copy paste it into the folder in step 5 (it will ask whether to over-write - say yes.)
7. Open OE6 and it should now be there, now simply copy the emails back into 'Inbox' and delete the empty folder.
Since I had not seen this before I decided to test it and sure enough, it
worked! So if all else fails to recover your missing mail, you might try
