What's on My Computer?

Sometimes you need to know things about your computer and have no idea how to find out. Someone may have asked you 'What kind of video card do you have?' Well, if you are hardware challenged like I am, you don't know and have no idea how to find out.

Not to worry, there are some nifty little utilities that can give you all the information you will ever need about what is on your computer.

Belarc Advisor not only tells you about your hardware, it will also tell you what software is on your computer and where it is located. (Usually in Program files, but not always!) It will also give you CD key information about Windows, MS Office and other Microsoft programs.

Got some programs that require a password to use? Did you forget any of the passwords? Not to worry, you can get some nifty little password tools at Nirsoft Utilities and Source Code.

One program I have is Tech Smith's Snagit. I love this program! As soon as I can find the time & energy I'm going to make tutorials using Snagit!

A must have program on my computer is Mozilla's Firefox. I am totally sold on Firefox. Since using it, I have found I don't get spyware. This is because most of the vulnerabilities in Internet Explorer that let spyware get installed are not found in Firefox. That may change as the bad guys start looking for them, but so far, so good! Another thing I don't miss is having to resize my browser window all the time. All of the tips and tricks for applying this in Internet Explorer work for a while, but then have to be re-applied after a time. You can get Firefox here. You will love the tabbed browsing, too!

I have NOD32 for virus and spyware scanning and the free Comodo firewall. My computer is oh so much faster now! (But I still use Firefox!)
