Outlook Express to Windows Live Mail

First, make a complete backup of Outlook Express.  Follow the instructions on changing the Store location for Outlook Express.

Next copy the Store folder you created in 'My Documents' to external media. I suggest a flash drive.

For exporting the Address book to Windows Live Mail you can choose to save the format in either of two ways, a .cvs file or a .wab file. I suggest the .cvs format as this file format can be used for other email programs as well like Gmail, Thunderbird, etc.  If you decide to use one of those programs your address book can be imported easily.

Open the file menu in Outlook Express and select Export, the Address Book. Highlight Text file (Comma separated Values)

Type AddressBook.wab in the CVS Export window and click the Browse button. Scroll through the list until you find the Backup Folder, select the folder & then click next.

Put a check mark in any boxes that do not have a check if you want those fields to be saved.

Your address Book is now saved.

To import the messages and address book into Windows Live Mail follow the instructions on the next page.
