Transferring Outlook Express Files to Windows Live Mail

You can also use this method to transfer your Outlook Express files to Windows Live mail.

If you made a backup of your Outlook Express, copy the backup folder into the Documents folder. Then follow the instructions located in Outlook Express to Windows Live Mail .

If you didn't make a backup of Outlook Express, but you still have your Windows XP computer, you can still make a backup.

In Windows XP make a new folder in My Documents. Name the folder something you will remember, like My Outlook Express or My Email. Open Outlook Express, click on Tools and select Options. When the Options window opens, click the Maintenance tab. Click the Store folder button, click Change and browse to the new folder you just created and select it. Close Outlook Express and re-open Outlook Express.

Check the new folder to make sure all of the files are now in the folder. Now all of your email is located in My Documents and you can copy the email folder to external media to move it to your new Windows 7 computer.

If you no longer have access to your Outlook Express in Windows XP and you don't have a backup, I am sorry! You will have to start from scratch and hope that your contacts will email you so you can add them to your new empty address book.

If you upgraded your computer to Windows 7, you may be able to retrieve those emails and contacts from the Windows.old directory.

Look at Microsoft Social to see how.
