Why I don't Like Windows Live Mail
When I got my laptop with Windows Vista I was dismayed to find the most popular email program ever was no longer there. Instead of Outlook Express there was a buggy program (without one of the best features, identities!) named Windows Mail. But I tried it for a while, hoping I would come to like it. But I just couldn't. When it wasn't possible to empty the junk mail folder, I decided to try Windows Live Mail.
When Windows Live mail installed, it imported everything from Windows mail with no action on my part. That was pretty cool even though I really didn't want that to happen. Then a funny thing happened. Suddenly broken things in Windows Mail worked better. I could empty the junk mail folder. However, I had a problem with emptying the deleted folder in Windows Live Mail.
So I just ignored Windows Live Mail and used Windows Mail. (I really wish Microsoft would stop giving different programs just similar names!)
Now I am using Windows 7, which came with NO email program. That was ok with me but I want to test these email programs so I can help folks decide which email program to use. So I reluctantly downloaded Windows Live Mail.
This is an adventure as well. If you don't read carefully and uncheck the programs you don't want, you get the whole shebang in the download (Windows Essentials). Screenshot
So I installed Windows Live Mail and setup an email account. Everything seemed to be working ok. I set up mail rules for folders. This was not hard, but it wouldn't run the rule on the right folder (Inbox) unless I selected all of the Inbox messages first.
Then I added another folder and rule. I ran the rule on the Inbox and 15 emails vanished. I am still looking for them. This is not good!
This is the file I kept for testing Windows Live Mail on Windows 7.
